Your New Role 

Location: Sydney
Role Type: Full-time, Permanent

The Associate Director, Alternative Finance will play a key origination, execution and analytical role in equity, debt and mezzanine financing transactions. 

The Investment and Business Financing business works with customers who require complex structured financing arrangements under key mandates including Critical Minerals, Indo Pacific Infrastructure and our core export credit agency function.

  • Contribute to business growth, strategy and market engagement.
    • Support the Director and other senior team members with originating, executing, structuring, and negotiating complex equity and equity-like transactions.  This includes preparing investment/credit submissions, and board papers where required.
    • Develop strategies for business, sector, and product development within the context of our mandate, our Board approved risk appetite, the needs of our customers and the external environment.
  • Due Diligence, Structuring and Documentation
    • Undertake and manage the necessary due diligence, risk mitigation and transaction structuring. You will also engage with internal and external counsel to ensure that appropriate legal documentation is successfully concluded and that financial close is achieved in a timely fashion.
  • Relationship Management
    • Assist the Director, Alternative Finance with managing client relationships and relationships with banks and other partners, developed through the negotiation and execution of transactions.  
    • Manage relationships and communication with key internal stakeholders including the Executive Credit, Legal and Portfolio Management.  
  • Legal, Risk & Compliance
    • Work within EFA’s Risk Management Framework ensuring compliance with governance frameworks, policies and procedures and contribute to their continuous improvement.
    • Ensure own activities comply with our mandate, Efic Act, Board delegations and with various legislative and international obligations relating to export credit agencies. 

About you

  • Strong investing and/or debt financing experience across a wide range of market segments, including institutional and corporate clients. There is also a preference for candidates with project and structured and equity financing experience in both the private and government sectors.

  • At least 7 years’ experience in financial institutions with a background in transaction structuring, investment/credit analysis and familiarity with complex financing arrangements.

  • Strong financial modelling, valuation and analysis skills.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent stakeholder influencing and management skills.

  • Degree qualified in business, finance, accounting, business administration, law and/or relevant technical disciplines.

  • Ability to undertake occasional domestic and international travel.

  • Track record of investing or financing experience in mining & resources and/or energy & infrastructure transactions, with strong sector knowledge.

  • Experience in growth equity investments would be highly regarded as would prior experience working with ECAs or other government financiers in comples transactions.
